So... Now What?
| Wednesday, August 25, 2010 |Labels: Autumn Gardening
As my first season of gardening comes to a close, I find myself asking the question, "So... Now what?" I know that I would like to continue gardening through the fall, but I'm not sure how. What are some things I can grow and when do I plant them? Can anyone help me? If I wait to see it on your blogs, it probably won't be until the plants are in the ground and then it will be too late for me...
Oh no! Am I too late already?!?

To know what to plant when, it will be helpful to know where you are, what USDA zone you're in, and what the general weather conditions are like in your micro-climate area. Since you're somewhere in the Pacific North West (I think?), I don't think you're late for fall planting at all. Things to try are, depending on what you like to eat/grow: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, all kinds of lettuce, spinach, arugula, hardy greens (kale, chard, boy choi, etc.), peas, bush beans, carrots, radishes, beets, and um, I can't think of any more, but I'm sure there are more. You should be able to plant all those things now. In general, most (if not all) leafy greens and root crops are pretty safe for fall and spring planting, I think. Just not warm weather veggies like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, melons, etc. Let me know what you end up planting!
Listen to Thyme! That's exactly what you can plant. I'm not much into fall gardening myself, the summer garden pretty much burns me out and I'm ready to relax by fall.
Hi Kimmi! Thanks for visiting my blog. My veggie harvest surprised me after being away for more than a week. Looks like Thyme answered your question. I'm planning to plant Peas, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, Spinach, Carrots, and more Leaf Lettuce. Have a wonderful weekend!
For our fall crops, I am growing lettuce, snow peas, cucumber and radishes.
